British Values

We actively encourage all pupils to show tolerance and respect for people of different faiths, beliefs and backgrounds. Through our curriculum and wider school experiences, children gain an understanding of key cultural events such as religious festivals, days of historical significance and national celebrations. We also build strong links within our local community and with other schools, enabling pupils to take part in a range of activities beyond the classroom. 

 

Democracy 

We promote democratic values by ensuring pupils have a voice and are actively involved in decision making within the school. 

Children are encouraged to take part in democratic processes, for example through the Pupil Leadership Council and Eco Council. Pupils also contribute to decision making in school life and local initiatives. Key Stage 2 pupils study citizenship, learning about the role of democracy and what it means to be a British citizen. This includes working collaboratively with local community leaders and engaging with visitors such as Magistrates to deepen their understanding of democracy and the rule of law. 

 

The Rule of Law 

Our school has strong links with local services such as the Police and Fire Service, helping pupils to understand how laws protect individuals and communities. We have a clear and structured Behaviour and Rewards Policy that promotes positive choices and mutual respect. Regular assemblies and visits from external agencies reinforce the importance of laws at both a local and national level. Achievements are recognised through class and school awards, encouraging good behaviour and responsibility. 

 

Individual Liberty 

Children are given opportunities to take on roles and responsibilities, helping them learn how to make positive contributions to school life. These roles include lunchtime monitors, play leaders, house captains and prayer leaders. Pupils are encouraged to understand their rights and personal freedoms while recognising the importance of making choices that benefit themselves and others. 

 

Understanding Difference 

We are proud of our inclusive environment where diversity is respected and celebrated. 

Religious Education is taught throughout the school and includes learning about a range of faiths including Sikhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Pupils also learn about different places of worship and beliefs associated with each religion. This is further supported through PSHE lessons, where pupils explore current issues, develop empathy and build an understanding of the wider world. 

We encourage pupils to appreciate and celebrate differences, preparing them to live and thrive in a diverse society.
